How to Establish Yourself for Massive Success: 5 Ingredients

Mike Masters 2 min read Article + video

Success has a formula. In the video I break it into five ingredients that set you up to dominate the game of life. Here are the first three properly, and the last two in brief.

1. Set your own rules and boundaries

The moment you start something of your own, people arrive with their expectations of how it should go. If you play by everyone else’s rules, they’ll drag you around: do this, now do that, and the requests get crazier, because they know you’ll accept anything.

Have your own red lines. If you don’t give discounts, you don’t give discounts. Some will call you arrogant. The successful ones will respect you, because they have rules of their own.

Think of a shop with a no-smoking rule. Someone lights up and you let it go “just this once”. Three months later people are walking out with products without paying. Let one rule slide and you slowly lose all authority.

Be flexible too. Other people have their own boundaries, and the best deals happen when both sides adjust a little. Just don’t give up so much of your space to make others comfortable that none is left for you.

2. Become irreplaceable

Everywhere you look people seem alike, but nobody on this planet shares your fingerprint, and the same goes for your character. Most of us follow the crowd and get shaped by the same programs until we become copies of a lot of other people.

Stop and ask yourself who you truly are. When you find what’s written on your soul and let it shine through, there’s a place in people’s lives, hearts and businesses that only you can fill. Nobody else fits it.

3. Put yourself in the right environment

A father gives his son a stone and tells him to ask what it’s worth. The grocer offers 20. A clothes shop offers 100. The jeweller looks at it and says it’s priceless.

That’s your worth too: it depends on the room you’re in. In the wrong place, people can’t see your value. In the right one, they show you how precious you are, sometimes in things you didn’t even know you were good at, and they push you to do even better.

4 and 5 in short

Prioritise results over rewards: chase the reward and you cut corners; chase the result and the rewards arrive as a by-product, from every side. Do good for the world: plant peaches and you harvest peaches. In the video I explain both, including why I build every website I make as a masterpiece instead of rushing it for the money.
