Going Through Difficult Times? This Will Help You Change for the Better

Mike Masters 1 min read Article + video

If you’re going through a difficult time, this is for you, and you’ll come out of it stronger than before.

A lot of people feel bad right now because of things they did that put them in a bad position. The solution is simple to say: find the actions that leave you feeling bad afterwards, and stop doing them.

Rules nobody wants

Sometimes we keep pushing a rule that makes no sense to anyone around us, sometimes not even to ourselves, just to assert dominance and show who’s boss. And while proving we’re the stronger one, we lose people’s respect, and the people who could have been our friends.

Look for the win-win instead: something people will appreciate you for.

Isolation that isn’t helping

We’re social beings. Being around people is how you meet new people, and new people open new doors, bring new knowledge and new opportunities.

Isolation isn’t always bad. A caterpillar has to isolate itself to become a butterfly. But sometimes we isolate when there’s no transformation happening, just time slipping away, alone with our own toxic thoughts, trash-talking ourselves and hurting our mental health.

You owe nothing to your former self

Many people never change because they believe “this is who I am, I’ve been known as this person for years.” You have no obligation to who you were yesterday.

Start with the simplest form of meditation: time alone, no phone, no devices. Five minutes, fifteen, an hour, whatever feels right. Let your thoughts and feelings flow until you settle into the present. Accept the hard truths it shows you, accept that they can change, and accept that there are people who’ll take you as you are, imperfect, because they are too.
