How to Know If You’re on the Right Path in Life

Mike Masters 1 min read Article + video

So many of us feel lost, looking for the way home. Here’s how to tell whether you’re on the right path or the wrong one.

1. You take full responsibility

On the wrong path, you blame God, the people around you, the circumstances. On the right path, you say: “I led myself here, and I’m the one who will get myself out.” If you’re always waiting for someone to come and save you, or to pay your bills, it’s time to change direction.

2. You invest your resources wisely

Your phone, your computer, your time, your money and, most of all, your focus are assets. Most of us let our own tools distract us from the success they could help us build.

Where are your thoughts right now? On an idea, a skill, the next tutorial or the headline of your next post? Or on a random video from someone who makes money from your attention? If Elon Musk hadn’t nurtured his idea, there’d be no Tesla. Your thoughts lead you wherever they’re pointed.

3. You take care of yourself

Showered, teeth brushed? Good start. Meditated today, even 15 minutes? Drunk enough water, eaten real food (apples, pineapple, avocado, nuts) instead of junk? Spent money on things that make you feel good, rather than on alcohol and cigarettes? That’s the right path.

4 and 5: comparison, and how you treat people

In the video I explain why I don’t scroll to see what old friends are up to (Instagram is just a wall of highlights anyway), and the clearest sign of all: whether someone else’s success makes you jealous, or inspires you.
