Our Society Is Broken. Here’s How to Fix It: Respect Your Own People First
After I said “let’s make this world a better place to live”, many people asked: how do we build a society where we respect each other, without sacrificing the comfort of the people closest to us?
What’s broken
People are turning against their own families and friends just to satisfy society: what will others think, what will they say? Someone treats me like a second-class citizen, and instead of standing up to them, I lower my head. Then I come home and throw all my frustration at my family.
That’s the very definition of disaster, and it leads to a dead end.
Respect goes both ways
You can’t expect my respect if you don’t respect my family. We can build a society where we respect each other and the people we love are respected by everyone else.
Who will actually be there?
The people on the street, the neighbours you’re trying so hard to please, won’t put a meal on your table, pay your bills or give you a shoulder to cry on. Your family will, even after you’ve treated them badly for the sake of the outside world. Give your respect to the people who deserve it, not to the people you feel inferior to. As long as my people are happy, I don’t care what the world thinks.
